Symbolism

Arms

The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The heraldic fountains (or wells) refer to the one found in the 1930 arms of the Scottish burgh of Motherwell and Wishaw, a canting reference to a well dedicated to the Virgin Mary there. The millrind likely alludes to Mr. Motherwell’s maternal grandfather, who was a grain merchant, as well as his own role as the founding manager of a heavy farm machinery company.

Crest

Not available.

Motto

This Latin expression means “May I shine.”
