Symbolism
Arms
The gold rings are a canting reference to Mr. Goldring’s surname. Their interlacing represents the bond unifying the members of his family, which is comprised of him, his wife, and their three daughters. They also allude to his many community involvements. The bee stands for ‘Be,’ the nickname of his wife Belinda. In addition, it represents Mr. Goldring’s industriousness. The roses symbolize his English heritage.
Crest
The griffin, a mythical guardian of treasures, represents Mr. Goldring’s career in financial investments. The sword refers to his service with the Canadian Armed Forces and his appointment in 2011 as the first Honorary Colonel for the Canadian Army as a whole. The torch symbolizes enlightenment, hence the family’s involvement in education, starting with Mr. Goldring’s grandfather who was a director of education for a school board, and his own award of a degree of Doctor of Humane Letters. The cross represents his faith.
Motto
This Latin phrase means “To serve and succeed.”
