Symbolism

Arms

Green and blue are the colours of Red Deer College. The bell has long been used as a symbol of the College, and the wapiti’s head is a reference to the name of the city, a red deer being a wapiti or elk.

Crest

The lion is the mascot of the College’s sport’s team. The torch is a symbol of learning, and it is taken from the emblem of the RDC Foundation. The coronet, or open crown, makes an allusion to the names of the sport’s teams (Kings and Queens) of the College, and the wheat is indicative of central Alberta.

Supporters

The wapitis repeat the symbolism of the arms. The use of the wheat coronets makes them unique to the College. The wild rose is the floral symbol of Alberta.

Motto

Meaning “To greater things through learning”.

Flag

The symbolism of this emblem is found in other element(s) of this record.
