Symbolism
Arms
The green is a canting reference to Mr. Green’s name, while blue and gold are colours commonly found in the arms of persons bearing this name. The three colours also allude to the agricultural background of Mr. Green’s family: gold for wheat, green for vegetables and blue for the water necessary for the crops. The diagonal cross outlined by a series of small peaks is commonly found in arms associated with the name Anderson, thus alluding to the family of Mr. Green’s paternal grandmother. The vertical wavy stripes are commonly found in arms associated with the name Down and the horizontal wavy stripes in arms associated with the name Westlake, thus alluding to his mother’s paternal and maternal families respectively.
Crest
The antlers allude to a deer, an animal commonly found in the arms of persons bearing the name Green. The figure formed by the squares alludes to diagrams used in computer programming, and in network and system analysis. It represents Mr. Green’s expertise in these fields, which he developed throughout his military career.
Motto
This Latin phrase means “Remember your heritage.”
