Symbolism
Arms
The first and fourth quarters are the traditional arms of the Thomas baronets of Yapton Place, in England. Lord Willingdon’s great-grandfather assumed the Thomas surname of his maternal grandfather, as well as the use of the Thomas arms. The second and third quarters are based on arms used by Freeman families in County Northampton, England. The blue bands are likely a mark of difference to indicate that Lord Willingdon’s ancestors were younger sons.
Crest
This is the traditional crest of the Thomas baronets of Yapton Place, with the ermine spot as a mark of difference for Lord Willingdon’s great-grandfather.
Crest
This crest is based on the traditional one used by the Freeman families of County Northampton, where the boar emerges from a ducal coronet.
