Symbolism

Badge

The background is sky blue and at its base are wavy bands coloured alternately in white and blue. Above the waves is an owl in flight, coloured gold, with wings outstretched and talons extended as if approaching its prey. The two shades of blue represent the two parts of the Forces served by the Centre, the Air Force and the Navy. The waves at the base represent the Centre's location on the Pacific. Long recognized as a creature that carefully watches over its domain with very accurate sight and hearing over great distances, the owl symbolizes the Centre's responsibility to extract the best aspects of acoustic intelligence from all acoustically-derived information. The owl also has often been associated with wisdom and therefore reflects an important part of the Centre's mandate, training.

Motto

Meaning "Knowledge through sound".
