Symbolism
Arms
The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. These arms are based on those of Darroch of Mulmorich, from which Mr. Darroch’s family claimed descent. The tuning fork refers to Mr. Darroch’s ancestor, Archibald Darroch, who, as a precentor, was a church official responsible for leading the congregation in singing.
Crest
The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The Highlander refers to Mr. Darroch’s ancestors, who were from the Scottish Highlands. He is wearing the MacDonald tartan as Clan Darroch is a sept of Clan MacDonald.
Motto
This Scottish Gaelic sentence means “I myself am an oak.” This is a canting reference to the surname Darroch, which is derived from darach, the Scottish Gaelic word for “oak.”
