Arms

Per fess dancetty Argent and Azure, in chief a balance and in base an igloo counterchanged;

Crest

A snowy owl Argent supporting with the dexter claw a fouled anchor Azure;

Motto

HONOS PER VIGILANTIAM;


Symbolism

Arms

The balance represents scales of justice and Mr. Gilmour’s profession as a lawyer. The igloo and the blue and white colours indicate his career with the Government of the Northwest Territories. The jagged division line is a reference to the Mackenzie Mountains of the Northwest Territories.

Crest

The owl continues the Arctic theme of the Arms, while the anchor represents Mr. Gilmour’s thirteen years as a naval officer.

Motto

This Latin phrase means “Honour through vigilance”.
