Symbolism
Arms
The two curved figures highlight Dr. Marando’s career in public service, representing the interconnectivity between the government and the citizenry. The figures also symbolize the union between Dr. Marando and his partner as the coming together of two distinct individuals to create a strong bond. Each curved figure ends in a flame, evoking the light of knowledge and the notion of a burning ambition to make an impact on society.
Crest
The ship embodies the concepts of adventure and new frontiers. The bergamot fruit is famous in the southern Italian region where Dr. Marando’s father was born, thus representing Dr. Marando’s rootedness in his family’s history. Similarly, the rose alludes to his maternal English ancestry, and Richmond Hill, the Toronto area where Dr. Marando grew up.
