Symbolism
Arms
The colours chosen are those of the Huguenots, thus marking part of Canon Blizzard’s ancestry, and they are also the colours of the arms of Stanbridge East, Quebec, where he owns a house. The snowflakes make a pun on the name “Blizzard”. The Maltese cross is the central figure of the traditional “Huguenot cross” dating from the 17th century.
Motto
TOUT EST GRÂCE means “All is grace”. This is a favourite saying of Canon Blizzard’s. His choice of a French motto indicates his ancestry, his residence in Quebec, and his bilingualism.
Badge
The symbolism of this emblem is found in other element(s) of this record.
Crest
The dove in the downward position is also taken from the traditional Huguenot cross and is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. The mountain refers to Canon Blizzard’s current residence in Westmount and his previous posting in Golden, British Columbia.
