Symbolism
Badge
The griffin's head repeats the symbol from another badge previously granted to Mr. Kennedy. The griffin is a guardian of treasure. The scrolls, with ermine dots to indicate writing, represent Mr. Kennedy's interests involving research and recording information. The chalice is a symbol of sacrifice, and it can also indicate his tenure as Assiniboine Herald, as heralds were at one time "baptized" with a chalice at the time of their creation.
