Symbolism
Arms
The green and white colours represent the Welsh background of Mr. Edwards’s parents. The pavilion is taken from the arms of the Merchant Taylors’ School, Crosby, Lancashire, which Mr. Edwards attended from 1940 to 1948. The two swallows indicate York University and the University of Toronto, where he acquired degrees.
Crest
The cormorant or “liver bird” is taken from the arms of the City of Liverpool where Mr. Edwards lived until he was twenty years of age. The pennant flag represents Mr. Edwards’s long time interest in flags. The infinity symbol refers to the infinite number of designs used on yacht club burgees that Mr. Edwards is recording and archiving as part of his interest in vexillology.
Motto
This is taken from the motto of the 1st Royal Tank Regiment, British Army, with which Mr. Edwards served in the Korean War.
