Symbolism

Arms

The bunch of grapes symbolizes Turquant, in the Loire Valley, and Anjou, the wine country from where the family’s ancestor, François Nau, originated. The wheat sheaf represents agriculture, which from the beginning of colonization onwards occupied generations of Naus. The open book reflects the activities of numerous Naus. The central cross represents the inspiration for these activities.

Crest

The gold sailing ship with three white masts recalls the ocean crossing of François Nau from La Rochelle, as well as the numerous Nau sailors, wheelmen, pilots and captains originating from Deschambault and vicinity.

Motto

AIME ET VA “Love and go” (your way) expresses in a few words the realities and aspirations of the Nau family.
