Symbolism
Arms
The nails indicate passion nails, a reference to the crucifixion and therefore to Mr. Goetz's Christian faith. The drop of blood is meant to link symbolically with the rose. The colours are those favoured by Mr. Goetz.
Crest
The gold arms in armour refer to Mr. Goetz's military service as an officer in the 56th Field Regiment, RCA, and the rose repeats the charge in the arms, a common practice in German heraldry and thus a reference to Mr. Goetz's heritage. The gold colour is an indication that this grant of arms was made in the year of the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada. The ancient crown contains points made of fleurs-de-lis (with pearls set between them), a religious symbol that particularly appeals to Mr. Goetz.
Flag
