Symbolism
Arms
Red and white are the colours of Canada. The lion refers to Mr. Tinlin’s English and Scottish ancestry, and the three maple leaves indicate his Canadian heritage and his three sons, a theme repeated in the three tails of the lion. The chequy pattern is a pun on the name of the family’s cottage in the Rideau Valley, Chequers.
Crest
The symbolism of this emblem is found in other element(s) of this record.
Motto
This German phrase means “Peace and prosperity”. It honours the German heritage of Mr. Tinlin’s wife, Beverly Tinlin, born Neuman.
