Symbolism

Arms

The red colour and the white cross are taken from the arms of Savoy, which was ceded to France by the Treaty of Turin in 1860. The yellow star recalls the Acadian roots of the Savoie family, and the fleur-de-lis honours the French ancestry of its members. The plough represents the ploughman occupation of François Savoie, the first ancestor in Acadia. The Jerusalem artichoke flower illustrates the meeting of the Old World with the New, and the adaptation of the pioneer settlers to their new environment.

Motto

This Latin phrase, which means “Fruit from flowers”, symbolizes the descendants of François Savoie and Catherine Lejeune.
