Symbolism

Arms

The colours, red, white, blue and gold, symbolize Mr. Larsen’s cultural heritage in Denmark, Sweden and England and his service to Canada. Mr. Larsen’s Scandinavian heritage is emphasized through the use of the Viking longships, the three also representing his three sons. The elephants, which honour his wife, Eurilda, are her favourite animals and are drawn from the civic arms of her birthplace, Pietermaritzburg, in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

Crest

The mantling uses the national colours of Denmark, England and Canada and one of the national colours of Sweden. The maple leaf coronet symbolizes service to Canada. The lion, a traditional symbol of power and strength, refers to Mr. Larsen’s roots in England and is coloured blue as a further reference to his Danish heritage. The axe is another symbol of his Scandinavian origins and honours the military service of members of his family.

Motto

Signifying “Noble in words and deeds”, the sentence was chosen by Mr. Larsen and his family as an expression of the guiding principles applied in serving their community as well as for daily living.

Differenced Arms for Eric Anders Larsen, son of Carl Anders Larsen

As the heir, his arms show a gold three-point label in the chief during his father’s lifetime.

Differenced Arms for Neil Carl Larsen, son of Carl Anders Larsen

The arms of his father are differenced by replacing the longship in the base with a silver globe, symbolizing the international outreach of his work and interests. In his crest, the coronet erablé is altered so that the maple leaves alternate with fleurs-de-lis, representing his French citizenship and honouring his wife's nationality.

Differenced Arms for Dana Albert Larsen, son of Carl Anders Larsen

The arms of his father are differenced by replacing the longship in the base with a silver oak tree, roots displayed. This is a reference to the tree of life, to his work, and to the concept of honouring the earth and preserving forests. It also refers to the ancient and magical properties of the oak which are a part of the British tradition and heritage.

Differenced Arms for Cyrus Langmead Larsen, grandson of Carl Anders Larsen

The arms of his grandfather are differenced with a gold five-point label borne during his grandfather’s lifetime.

Differenced Arms for Ezra Langmead Larsen, grandson of Carl Anders Larsen

The arms of his grandfather are differenced by replacing the longship in the base with a silver dragon, which is his favourite symbol.

Differenced Arms for Lily Ana Kalima Larsen, granddaughter of Carl Anders Larsen

The arms of her father, Dana, are differenced with a three-point label during her father’s lifetime. In her crest, the coronet erablé is altered so that maple leaves alternate with hearts, her favourite symbol, and which also appear on the arms of Denmark.
