Symbolism

Arms

The white and gold colours make particular reference to Ms. Uva’s Christian faith, being the colours of the Papacy. Red was chosen as a strong colour to represent her energy for community service. The grapes represent her family name, Uva, meaning “grapes” in Italian; her Italian heritage; and her great-grandparents’ vineyard. The “paly” pattern in the base symbolizes her given name, as “Rica” makes a reference to fertile lands. The pattern may also denote the group of community organizations she has served as a volunteer for many years.

Crest

The deer represents Ms. Uva’s Canadian origins. The importance of Christianity in Ms. Uva’s daily life is underlined by the ichthus symbol. The rose is her favourite flower. It indicates her appreciation for balance, comfort and love. The laurel branch is a reference to her family origins in Italy.

Motto

This Latin phrase means “God protect me, guide me, and enlighten me”.
