Symbolism
Arms
The arms honour Mr. Bijl’s Dutch and French ancestors and heritage. The shield is related to the ancient arms of Bijll, Holland. The red and gold colours in the inescutcheon are used to difference the arms. The crosses allude to the marriage of Mr. Bijl’s great-grandparents Pieter Bijl and Jannigje van Helden as well as the Hainaut Crusaders to the Holy Land.

The cross and the axe repeat a theme from the shield.
Motto
Meaning “Persevere.”
